11 Essential things for gentleman’s summer

We have been waiting and dreaming of it for long during working winter afternoons, now that summer is finally here, let’s see what we need to spend it like real gentlemen.

Sunscreen

Let’s admit it, a gilded tan is the first memory we want to bring to the city once back from holidays, for this reason, using a proper sunscreen is fundamental to avoid a terrible lobster color! Opt for a spray on version, easier and more comfortable to apply.

Summery timepiece

Loyal companion during those days which are ruled by business meetings, during summer, the watch becomes an accessory to make more elegant even the most casual outfit. Both if you are going to wear it at a beach party or at sea depths, I’ll suggest you a model with a stainless steel bracelet and a waterproof case. Need some advice? Ask to the world’s most famous secret agent…

A good book

Ernest Hemingway once said: “There is no friend as loyal as a book” and without any doubt, summer, with its slower rhythms, is the best season in which we can concede ourselves to the pleasures of reading. Choose an all time classic like “The Great Gatsby” by Fitzgerald or “On the road” by Kerouac and let your “loyal friend” accompany you during your holidays.

Linen shirt

One of the most interesting natural fibers, linen is a loyal ally for a gentleman’s summer wardrobe. Thanks to its lightness, a linen shirt is the perfect choice to stay elegant even at the highest temperatures.

Unlined blazer

Fundamental during the most elegant occasions, the summer blazer must be chosen unlined, with patch pockets and soft shoulders. Made of light wool or blends of linen and wool or even wool and cotton, the darker the more formal it will be. Rigorously to offer to your dame during cooler nights.

Good manners

A true gentleman never forgets them, not even when on holiday. Being polite improves our relationships with others and with ourselves, so open doors, give up your seat, use an appropriate voice tone, turn off mobile phones and make the people around you at their ease.

Sunglasses

Essential like sunscreen, but most of all fundamental to complete every look. Be careful to choose the model which better suits the shape of your face and opt fon an iconic line, which will never go out of fashion.

Hat

Also in this case, we have an accessory able to protect us from sun rays, but also that enriches our outfit. The most appropriate models are the iconic Panama and Straw, super light and always elegant. Absolutely avoid baseball hats, unless your name is Leonardo Di Caprio and you are trying not to be recognized.

Summer shoes

Summer, especially for us living in Italy, is synonym of loafers; the most versatile model is without any doubt the one with heel and tassels, perfect both under the suit and a pair of jeans, while the one with the legendary sole made of “gommini” is better for more informal outfits. For the beach, instead, forget about flip-flops and opt for a pair of espadrilles, spanish shoes with the iconic cord sole, worn by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalì, which recently came back to fashion among celebrities all over the world.

T-shirt

A simple yet important element in every men’s wardrobe, real passe-partout for every summer look. It is important not to choose the wrong fit, not too large not too tight; when in doubt, follow the example of icons such as Steve McQueen or James Dean, who have made of the t-shirt a must.

Swim trunks

Last but not least, swim trunks are the essential piece for the gentleman spending his holidays at the seaside. The two most important details are the length and the print; the ideal ones have to stop just a little after half thigh, nor too long nor too short, while the best prints are the ones recalling sea colors, white and blue, with those it will be impossible to go wrong.
